Football Influencer 'Assaulted by Gang' Following Star-Studded Legends Match Featuring Premier League Icons

A prominent football influencer was rushed to hospital after reportedly being attacked hours after attending a legends match featuring football icons such as Zinedine Zidane and Didier Drogba.

According to local reports, Mercedes Roa was assaulted on the street while attempting to protect a friend from a group of youths. The 25-year-old, who boasts 2.5 million Instagram followers, was in Marseille for events surrounding the Universe League.

The high-profile match took place on Sunday at the Orange Velodrome stadium and included appearances by former Real Madrid legend Zidane, ex-Chelsea star Drogba, former Arsenal player Robert Pires, and Barcelona great Gerard Pique.

After the match, the Mexican influencer—known for collaborating with footballers on her social media platforms—went to the Opera district to meet friends.

However, in the early hours, one of her friends was reportedly targeted by several young men, as reported by NeedToKnow. Witnesses stated that when Mercedes saw her friend being attacked by at least four individuals, she intervened and was injured during the altercation.

Police responded promptly and arrested three suspects at the scene. Both Mercedes and her friend were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Her sister, Camila Roa, reassured fans via Instagram on Tuesday: “My sister is safe and sound. Mercedes will provide an update as soon as she is able.”

French authorities confirmed that the suspects are facing charges of aggravated assault. Mercedes has filed an official complaint and is currently recovering while maintaining close contact with her family in Mexico.

Marseille Mayor Benoit Payan expressed support to her friends and family in a public message, pledging full assistance. The investigation remains ongoing.
