Barcelona star Ronald Araujo granted indefinite leave of absence

Ronald Araujo has been granted indefinite leave by LaLiga side FC Barcelona following a request for a period of absence.

The South American has only featured in 15 matches in all competition for Hansi Flick’s Blaugrana in the 2025-26 campaign.

His most recent outing was featuring in the UEFA Champions League against two-time European champions Chelsea, and was sent off in the first half.

The Uruguay international has played 15 games across all competitions for Hansi Flick’s side this campaign and his most recent appearance was in last week’s Champions League defeat at Chelsea, when he was sent off in the 44th minute.

Araujo was not part of Barcelona’s squad that overpowered Alaves on Saturday at Camp Nou.

According to numerous reports, the player’s representative met with club’s sporting director Deco on Monday to discuss the matter with the club committed to giving him the time he needs.

When asked about details of the absence, manager Flick responded: “It is a private situation, I don’t want to say more. And please, if you can respect it I’d appreciate it.”
