Emery on Elliott's potential return to Liverpool: Other players performing very well

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery has revealed what the future holds for Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott.

Elliott arrived on loan from Liverpool, with an obligation to buy for 335M, and has made five appearances for Emery’s side since joining the club on loan on the final day of the summer transfer window.0

The midfielder, who made 18 appearances for the Reds last season, has not played in the Premier League for over two months and when he last did, he was pulled off at half-time.0

Speaking in his latest press conference, Emery was asked about the England international who he suggests has to fight for his spot in the side.0

“He is one of our players, and hopefully he can help us. Then, we are going to decide”.0

“There are other players performing very well. This is the main reason.”0

If Elliott were to make 10 appearances for Villa, the club will be obligated to pay 335M to sign the 22-year-old on a permanent basis, which has led reports to suggest that Emery is reluctant to feature the 22-year-old.0

Emery named 18-year-old George Hemmings on the bench for last Sunday’s trip to Leeds United, ahead of Elliott, which further proves his intentions.0

Villa play six matches in 17 days, which will lead Emery to rotate his side, potentially handing Elliott a chance in the side if he impresses behind the scenes.0
