Lionel Messi reached full agreement on 2023 Barcelona return with deal drafted

Lionel Messi reportedly agreed to a sensational Barcelona return in 2023, with the club drawing up a contract.

The now 38-year-old left Barcelona as a free agent back in 2023, going on to spend two seasons at PSG before heading to the MLS with Inter Miami.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Messi came close to returning when his time in Paris was coming to an end.

Messi first got in touch with former teammate and then Barcelona manager Xavi in January, and they kept in contact over the following months.

Xavi even spoke to his father/agent Jorge Messi, and Barcelona’s director of football Matheu Alemany claimed that La Liga had given the nod to the transfer.

Messi Sr then called Xavi in April to let him know that wasn’t the case, saying: "They tell me it is not going to happen, that La Liga does not give the approval."
