Ranking Antoine Semenyo’s Best Transfer Options After Release Clause Emerges
With Antoine Semenyo’s release clause now public, several clubs are weighing up a move. Here’s how his potential destinations stack up.
The 25-year-old has been the Premier League’s breakout star of the season so far, starting with a brace against champions Liverpool and scoring six goals and providing three assists in his opening 11 games.
Semenyo’s impressive form has seen him linked with the big boys, and according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the winger could be available for as little as 365 million due to a recently revealed release clause.
So, with plenty of options in January and next summer, which club would suit him best?
Ruben Amorim’s side were very interest in Semenyo during the summer, with several reports suggesting they even made an offer before putting all their eggs in Bryan Mbeumo’s basket instead. Thankfully that transfer has worked out.
Semenyo would undoubtedly be a huge asset for United, and new of his release clause will likely have their recruitment team talking, but that’s a lot of money that could be spent elsewhere, the forward line is no longer a priority.
United will be looking to sign several midfielders in the summer, with links to Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton among others. Don’t expect them to be spending much elsewhere.
Chelsea are linked with anyone who might be slightly available at this point. The West London club’s never ending need to trade players has them as huge transfer window protagonists more often than not.
Again, Semenyo would be a fantastic signing for Chelsea, but they’re already so stacked with wingers AND have Geovany Quenda coming in next summer to add another. If someone were to leave, then it might make a bit more sense.
It’s so hard to predict what Chelsea are going to do in the transfer window though. Just because they probably shouldn’t, doesn’t mean they won’t.0
Spurs’ start to the season has been deceptive. They’re really struggling to create chances beyond set pieces, but they sit in fifth with 18 points from 11 games, so are things actually that bad?
Mohammed Kudus has been fantastic since he came in this summer, but he hasn’t scored or provided an assist since their 2-1 win over Leeds at the start of October the opposition defenders already working out that he is their main creative threat.
Ghana teammate Semenyo would add another threat on the left while Kudus operates on the right, or maybe even in the number 10. They’re already familiar with each other, and it would be a good move, but Semenyo has better options.
This isn’t a Pep Guardiola side we’re used to. Not only are they playing more direct football, relying hugely on their Norwegian goal robot, but they no longer have ‘world class’ players in every position.
Jeremy Doku has impressed on the left, so it’s unlikely City will be looking to sign anyone in that position, for now at least. On the right, however, Semenyo would be a massive upgrade on Oscar Bobb.
City also have Rayan Cherki that can play there, but he’s more of a second number ten alongside Phil Foden in possession, leaving plenty of room for Semenyo to operate as a more traditional right winger.
Yes, Arne Slot’s side have just spent around 3400 million on new forwards, but it’s starting to feel like there is going to be a big Mohamed Salah shaped hole to fill pretty soon, and that’s gonna take MORE money.
It’s weird to say, but at 365 million, Semenyo is good value for a goal scoring winger with plenty of Premier League experience. Liverpool would have to spend a lot more than that one a player without a release clause.
Slot loves a versatile forward, and with Semenyo’s capability to play anywhere across the forward line, he would fit in seamlessly. A move to the red half of Merseyside would be the best option.
