The mother of former Sunderland forward Leon Dajaku left fans stunned after they believed she must be his girlfriend.

The German footballer, who won the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich as a teenager, posed alongside his mother, Blerta, in a social media post last year that was uploaded on Instagram.

However, the innocent post of the mother and son duo enjoying each other's time went viral after users of the platform were left in disbelief over Blerta's stunningly youthful looks, initially believing she was Dajaku's WAG.

Certainly able to pass for someone in their mid-20's, the Kosovan-Albanian beautician is in fact in her 40s, and even became a grandmother last year after the SSV Ulm forward welcomed a baby girl, Nava, with his partner, Leonie June.

She's become somewhat of a social media favourite with over 26,000 followers on Instagram where she posts snaps of her various holiday destinations, including Dubai, Paris and the Maldives.

The befuddlement surrounding Blerta's appearance was made known on social media with one fan writing: "This is the guy’s MOTHER, not his wife. I’m genuinely in awe" while a second added: "Bro looks older than his mum."

Among the locations showcased on her social media was Sunderland which is where Dajaku spent the 2021/22 season on loan before signing a permanent deal with the Black Cats later that summer.

He made 39 appearances for Sunderland and scored just four goals before enjoying a brief loan stint at St Gallen. His spell in Switzerland was indeed a short one as he then signed for Hadjuk Split in 2023.

It was earlier this year when Dajaku departed Hajduk, where he was briefly managed by AC Milan icon Gennaro Gattuso.

The striker faced the wrath of the Italian World Cup winner last December when he was left out of the matchday squad in Hadjduk's clash against Sibenik.

When asked why Dakaju and Yassine Benrahoun were removed from the squad, Gattuso slammed the duo and claimed they brought "a lot of negativity" to the team.

"It is not for them to worry about when they will play," the former midfielder said.

"They must be ready at all times. What I don't like about players is negativity. These two players have brought a lot of negativity.

"There are other players who are negative. As long as I am a coach, regardless of whether I am for a month or three years, the 15-year-olds will also play.

"I'd rather lose the match than lose my dignity."
