Former Barcelona director Xavier Vilajoana has ripped into president Joan Laporta over Lionel Messi's departure from the side.

The former Barca captain released photos of himself at the Nou Camp on Sunday night, much to the shock of not only fans but also the club, who had no idea the Inter Miami star was set to make his way back to the ground.0

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner left Barcelona for Paris St-Germain in 2021 in what was a crushing blow for the La Liga giants. Laporta said he “doesn’t regret” Messi leaving back in 2021 because “Barca is above everything”. 0

Now, as the Argentina star returns to Barcelona, Vilajoana has criticized Laporta’s actions and pleaded with him to tell the truth about letting him go.0

“Messi’s departure was based on financial reasons. It was said that the club couldn't afford the best player in the world. If the reason was financial, I don't see it anywhere now,” Vilajoana stated.0

“Let Laporta tell us the real reason why Messi was let go.
