Wolves' new head coach? Edwards skips Middlesbrough press conference as he pushes for move
Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards is reportedly pushing to become the new Wolves manager as he skips his latest press conference.
Former Wolves manager Vitor Pereira was dismissed from his position after overseeing a miserable 3-0 loss to Fulham, the club’s fourth defeat in a row in all competitions and third on the bounce in the Premier League.0
Now, as interim manager James Collins prepares to take on Chelsea, the club are desperately looking for a replacement. Reports have suggested that Middlesbrough head coach Rob Edwards is the club’s first choice, and this week he seemed to have hinted towards a move.0
Edwards due to face the media on Friday afternoon ahead of Boro's home game with Birmingham City on Saturday but the conference was instead cancelled. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano commented on the potential move this week, stating that the Championship side are desperate to keep him.0
"Middlesbrough don't want him to go, obviously, so they are trying to protect themselves and stop these conversations with Wolves. But they are still pushing and still trying, so let's see what is going to happen there.0
"Rob Edwards remains the leading candidate. There were some conversations with Erik ten Hag's agents earlier this week, but nothing more. Ten Hag is not convinced about the opportunity.0
"I think there are going to be more conversations in the next 24-48 hours. Soon we will have a final answer but, for sure, Edwards is the leading candidate. At the moment, Middlesbrough are still trying to block this opportunity."0
Edwards has led the side to third with just two defeats in their opening 14 Championship games and although he has no Premier League experience, Wolves think he is ready for a step-up.0
The Englishman has twice been asked about the link to his former club Wolves in the last week and has downplayed the story without actually dismissing it. Back in 2016 Edwards managed thr Wolves' academy and had an interim spell at the first team, before leaving the club for AFC Telford United.0
