Manchester United director of football Jason Wilcox has revealed exactly what kind of player the club are looking for in the next transfer window.

United’s approach in the transfer market does not focus on “putting the Harlem Globetrotters together” according to Wilcox, who has revealed what he and his team are searching for as they aim to add to the squad over the next few windows.0

Around 3200M including add-ons was spent on players this summer as manager Ruben Amorim brought in Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens to improve the club’s toothless attack and shaky goalkeeper issues.0

Wilcox has now detailed what he wants in a United signing, as he spoke on the Inside Carrington podcast this week in what was an interesting insight into the club’s transfer operations.0

"You have to bring players in that bring something different to the changing room, but the most important thing is that whenever we’re bringing in a player who comes here, they have to want to improve and they have to be a team player, and understand what it means to be part of a successful team," he said.0

"It’s not about putting the Harlem Globetrotters (an American exhibition basketball team) together. If I look at the successful Man United teams, there was very functional players that would die for the badge and there were some mavericks.0

"When you talk about (Eric) Cantona, when you hear anybody talk about him, he was an ultimate professional. When I look now and I see the car park, the report time is at 9.45am, you see the lads coming in at 8.30am, 8.45am, preparing for training. This is a good sign."0

Last season saw United record their worst league finish in 51 years and failure to qualify for Europe for the first time in over a decade. Wilcox will be aiming to better that this season and focus on signing more players who want to fight for the side over the next few campaigns.0
