Lewis praises Haaland after 53rd Champions League goal
Rico Lewis has described Erling Haaland as “amazing” after the striker scored for the 12th consecutive match for club and country in Manchester City’s 2-0 Champions League win over Villarreal.
The Norway international opened the scoring in the 17th minute, finishing expertly from Lewis’ cross to net his 15th goal in 11 appearances for the Ctizens across all competitions this season.0
The strike also moved him into ninth place on the Champions League all-time scoring charts, with 53 goals in 51 appearances, maintaining an impressive average of over a goal per game.
City captain Bernardo Silva doubled the lead with a header just before halftime, putting the team in a commanding position.0
“It’s amazing. To play with him in the team helps more than you think,” Lewis said.0
“He draws so many defenders which frees up other people. And then when them people are free it frees himself up. It’s impossible to defend.
“Credit to him. He’s such a hard worker. He never wants to stop scoring and you can see that.”
He added: “We felt in control for most of it. There’s always better things we can do. They had a few spells where we could have stopped them from having if we were a bit better on the ball at times.
“We’ve got to be harsh on ourselves, we want to win the competition. We look at the good things and the bad things. We’re happy with a clean sheet and a win.
“I think we’ve got our confidence back, that’s the main thing. When you play with confidence, there’s nothing that can stop you but yourself. 0Everyone trusts each other. There’s nothing better than all of us having each other on the pitch.”
