Arne Slot Hits Out at Man United's 'Long Ball' Tactics After Late Liverpool Defeat
Liverpool boss Arne Slot slammed Man United's use of 'long ball' and 'low block' tactics during his side's late defeat at Anfield on Sunday (October 19).
Liverpool have now lost four consecutive games across all competitions for the first time since Brendan Rogers was in charge.
On a personal level, Slot, 47, has never endured such a losing streak in his managerial career as Liverpool fall four points behind league leaders Arsenal.
Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead after just 62 seconds with the visitors holding on for 76 minutes before Gody Gakpo scored the equaliser.
Five minutes later, centre back Harry Maguire got his big head on the end of a beautiful looping ball from Bruno Fernandes to secure all three points.
Speaking after the game, Slot criticised United’s tactics, saying: "If you play a United side that comes with a low block and comes with a long balls and you know it is going to be difficult. It makes it even more difficult if it is after one minute.
"I think if you lose a game after you have lost four, you would have more emotion but there is no excuses. We need to focus on ourselves we had so many chances and we should score more, we should have defended better than we did.
"I brought on substitutions to turn the game around and they created more opportunities. But you don't have the same structure in defending and set pieces.
