Ex-Liverpool youngster reveals golf course phone call from Alonso
Ex-Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton opened up on the shock phone call he received from current Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso, while being on a golf course.
Speaking to Sport Bible in an exclusive interview, Morton revealed that growing up, he used to idolise Spain legend Xabi Alonso, who spent five years at Anfield before heading to Real Madrid in 2009. Morton said: "I loved Xabi Alonso so I tried to copy him. He was different from everyone else."
The youngster then also revealed the story where he received a shocking phone call from his idol last summer. He said: "It's a funny story. I was on a golf course with my mates at the time. I got a text from my agent, who said: 'Xabi Alonso's going to call you soon'. I'd heard about the move but didn't speak about it too much because I'd been told I wasn't leaving Liverpool. I'd just hit a nice drive and was on for my first par of the day. I had to bin it off, but it was definitely worth it! He (Alonso) told me how highly he rates me as a player. They wanted to sign me."

Alonso offers update on Endrick's future amid Marseille talk
Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso has offered up an update on striker Endrick with the Brazilian linked with a January move.
Ahead of Real Madrid's game against Getafe on Sunday, Alonso was asked about the possibility of both Endrick and Garcia departing in January, stating: "I'm not thinking about it at the moment, it's not on my mind." Alonso was also adamant that neither Endrick nor Garcia had "asked to leave this winter", adding: "Both are ready to play. It's a position where competition is fierce."
Forest line up ex-Man City boss as Postecoglou replacement
Nottingham Forest took the decision to sack Ange Postecoglou on Saturday afternoon. Forest fell to a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea to extend their winless run to 10 matches.
And Forest are looking to make a quick appointment once more with The Athletic reporting that former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has been earmarked as a successor for Postecoglou. The Italian has been out of work since October 2024 after leaving his role as head coach of Saudi Arabia.

Pep Guardiola has named the one player that he'd "love" to have back at Manchester City. City have previously shown a ruthless streak when it comes to cashing on players who no longer wish to play for the club, notably Leroy Sane who left the Premier League side for Bayern Munich in 2020.
Ahead of City's game against Everton, Guardiola said: "Julian had to compete with Erling (Haaland), which was something extraordinary for us. Julian Alvarez is top. That's why now he's at one of the best clubs in the world, Atleti, playing for a top class manager, players, performing unbelievably. Maybe I'd love to have him… but I understand why he left. United boss Amorim targets Inter star Dimarco
According to Tuttosport, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has identified Federico Dimarco as a priority signing and is eager to bring the Inter Milan full-back to the Premier League. The 26-year-old has made a flying start to the current Serie A campaign, contributing two goals and three assists in just six appearances, further enhancing his reputation as one of Europe's most effective wing-backs. Despite Amorim's interest, securing Dimarco's signature may prove difficult. The defender remains under contract until 2027 and is said to prefer finishing his career at Inter, with talks ongoing over a lucrative new deal.
