Jurgen Klopp lands new role with German Football League as part of "expert group"

Jurgen Klopp has taken up a new role with the German Football League (DFL) alongside former Real Madrid star Sami Khedira.

The DFL has launched a group of experts who will focus on strengthening youth development, improving club structures, and setting long-term goals to keep the Bundesliga competitive, which has been a major concern in recent years.0

“We are convinced that financial, legal and sporting framework conditions must sit in order to keep the Bundesliga and German football steadily competitive,” said DFL Managing Director Marc Lenz.0

“Lastly, sporting developments – including in the promotion of young talent – were discussed internally in the league association. We need to draw the right conclusions together.” To this end, the expert group will “bring in valuable impulses”.0

Klopp will join the likes of 2014 World Cup winner Khedira, St. Pauli’s Andreas Bornemann, Bayern Munich’s Jochen Sauer, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Markus Krosche and Nuremberg’s Joti Chatzialexiou.0

The group is scheduled to present its initial findings and recommendations to the league committees and all 36 professional clubs in the German system by spring 2026 in what is a huge step forward for the Bundesliga.0

Klopp maintains his role as Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull and continues to work alongside clubs such as Red Bull Leipzig under a contract running until 2029.0
