Schmeichel opens up on Hojlund and McTominay: I don't get why those two are at Napoli!
Former Manchester goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has commented on Rasmus Hojlund and Scott McTominay's moves to Napoli.
Hojlund is another example that leaving Manchester United can be the best choice for a player whose form has fallen off a cliff. The Danish striker has scored seven times and provided one assist in his last nine matches for the Serie A side as he continues to impress.0
His impact in Italy alongside former United midfielder McTominay has been well reported and the Scotsman even led the side to the league title last season as was named Serie A player of the season.0
Speaking to the BBC, Schmeichel wrote that the pair should never have left and that United’s transfer business has been confusing.0
"What's he doing at Napolii? He is so Manchester United.0
"The problem was his versatility, because you have players who can only play in one position. Managers didn't trust him to build the team around. They want the neat players. He was the victim of that time and again. 0
"I don't get why those two are at Napoli. You will get no-one with more enthusiasm for Manchester United than Rasmus Hojlund. He was writing about playing for the club when he was 10 years old. He's a massive fan.0
"And the fans love him because he was working so hard for the team and he never complained."0
McTominay scored 13 goals and provided six assists in his debut campaign, and Schmeichel suggests that he could have been the perfect option to supply Hojlund if he stayed at United.0
You only have to see what he's doing at Napoli with Kevin de Bruyne and Scott McTominay to play with - he's scoring goals.0
"I've consistently said this for two-and-a-half years - Rasmus Hojlund will be a 25-goal-a-year striker for Manchester United, but he needs service.0
"We let him go on the stats that he scored very little goals last season and bring Sesko in at the time we bring in Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbuemo, who would give Hojlund first-class service.”0
United's loss is Napoli's gain, and the Italian side are likely to trigger Hojlund’s buy clause and steal him away for free at the end of the season when the time comes.0
