Craig Bellamy once attacked ex-Liverpool peer John Arne Riise with a golf club after he refused to sing at a team dinner.

Bellamy, who is currently managing the Welsh national side, enjoyed a successful Premier League career for the likes of Newcastle United, Manchester City and Cardiff City, but was always known for his fiery temper and outbursts on and off the field. And that also came to the fore during the first of his two spells playing for his boyhood club Liverpool, which he did from 2006 to 2007, and 2011 to 2012.

It was under Rafa Benitez on Merseyside that the Wales boss, whose side play England on Thursday, became embroiled in an infamous ordeal involving Norwegian defender Riise. During a warm-weather training camp Bellamy came to blows with his team-mate, who has become renowned for receiving a scathing review from model Katie Price after an intimate evening.

Before Liverpool's 2007 Champions League last-16 tie against Barcelona, manager Benitez took the Reds to Portugal as they prepared for a trip to the Camp Nou. The squad were all sat down for dinner, when Bellamy and Riise began a back and forth.

Riise recollected to the Filthy Fellas podcast: "The whole dinner, [Bellamy] sat there saying: 'Riise's gonna sing, Riise's gonna sing!' I said: 'No, I'm not gonna sing.' But he just kept going. And I didn't drink, some other people did.

"After dinner, we went to the karaoke place and Bellamy took the microphone and said: 'Riise's gonna sing' again. I just lost it. I went up to him and said: 'Listen. I'm not f***ing singing, so shut the f*** up or I'm going to smash you.' I was rooming with Daniel Agger in the hotel and then I could hear some keys in the door. I thought it might be Agger coming home, but then the lights came on.

"You know when you've been sleeping, the lights come on? Full on. You can't see. So I turned around and there's Bellamy with a golf club in his hands. So I'm lying there in my bed and Bellamy comes in and starts shouting: 'I don't care what happens!'

"I could see he was not sober. Then he took a swing at my shins. I stood up and took this sheet and I've said: 'Let's do this the proper way, man-to-man.' But no, he stood there and said: 'I don't care if I go to jail, my kids have got enough money, I'm gonna f*** you up. Nobody talks to me like this in front of my players!'

"Then he swung and I blocked it with my shin. The funny thing is while I was standing there, I'm thinking if I do something, I'll lose my career at Liverpool. I said to him: 'Let's meet tomorrow, 9am. Me and you tomorrow.'

"So he agreed to do that. The morning after, I walk to his room, 9 o'clock with Agger, knocked on his door, he wasn't there. Then he came in five minutes later, didn't even look at me. Then we had a meeting with Benitez, [who said]: 'This case is closed. We've got a game in two-three days.'"

Bellamy was fined two weeks' wages by Liverpool over the incident. He did however score in the Champions League clash and even celebrated with a cheeky golf swing. His and Riise's side would face AC Milan in the final of the competition, but lost 2-1.

This isn't the only heated ordeal Riise has been involved in, as he was once given a scathing bedroom review by model Price after they shared an intimate night together. As mentioned in Katie's book, Reborn, she detailed a quite comical encounter between the sheets with a so-called mystery man in 2012.

Riise wasn't paid any compliments by Price, 47

"If I'd needed a shelving unit erected, he'd have been perfect. Instead of handling me gently and passionately like most women want, he was like a cordless drill on a multi-speed setting!" penned Price regarding this mysterious figure.

"He reminded me of a red Bosch that I have in my garage, bang... bang... bang, bang, bang. At one point I panicked, thinking, 'S***, if he doesn't stop soon, I'm going to be permanently attached to the bed!' Mr X wasn't having sex with me, he was having sex at me."

The man was branded Mr X until 2016, when a friend revealed: "John Arne Riise is Katie's mystery Mr X. He had always fancied Katie and jumped at the chance to be introduced to her.

"It eventually fizzled out and she thought it was finally time to talk all about it in her book - and she doesn't have too many complimentary things to say about his moves in the bedroom."
