Former Wrexham striker Steven Fletcher is reportedly set to reject interest from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian and announce his retirement from professional football. The 38-year-old has been a free agent after being released by the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney-owned club following their promotion to the Championship last season.

Hibs held talks with Fletcher over return to where it all started

According to the Daily Record, Hibs had held talks with Fletcher over a move which would have seen him return to the club where he began his professional career. Emerging through the youth system in 2004, the forward went on to score 52 goals in 189 appearances for Hibs before joining Burnley in 2009.

However the report states that after mulling over whether to return to Easter Road, Fletcher now looks set to turn down Hibs’ advances in favour of hanging up his boots. In his two seasons at the SToK Cae Ras, Fletcher scored 16 goals in 73 league games as Wrexham secured successive promotions from League Two in 2023-24 and then League One in 2024-25, before being released in the summer.
