Atletico Madrid president Cerezo responds to Messi transfer rumours

Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo has laughed off rumours of signing Lionel Messi.

The Barcelona legend's contract at Inter Miami is due to expire at the end of the calendar year. And it's been suggested Messi could return to Europe in January to prepare for next summer's World Cup.

Atletico has been raised as a destination, but Cerezo has responded, stating: 0"I think Messi is in the United States playing for Inter Miami and I believe thinking about that, I don't know how you could have thought of that (laughs).

"We have a great team, we already have it complete, definitely closed and now what we want is for this team to be together and start working."

At Atletico, Messi's Argentina teammates Juli1n 1lvarez and Thiago Almada are on the books.
