Emiliano Martinez is set to be reintegrated into the Aston Villa squad after failing to secure a late move to Premier League rivals Man United.

The 33-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Man United throughout the summer, with Ruben Amroim’s side reportedly making a loan bid for him early in the window.

Martinez is understood to have stayed at Aston Villa’s training ground on transfer deadline day, waiting for a call from United that never came.

United decided to sign Senne Lammens for a reported fee of 321 million from Belgian side Royal Antwerp rather than move to sign the World Cup winner.

According to The Athletic, Martinez is now set to be reintegrated into the Aston Villa squad as they hope to improve on a stuttering start to the season.

Villa are in the relegation zone after their first three games and are the only side the Premier League who are yet to score a goal.
