Revealed: Why Alexander Isak Missed Sweden’s World Cup Qualifier Against Slovenia After Liverpool Move
Sweden manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has revealed why he decided to leave Alexander Isak out of the side that drew 2-2 with Slovenia on Friday (September 5).
Isak finally got his move to Liverpool on transfer deadline day, joining the Premier League holders from Newcastle for a reported British record fee of 3125 million.
Despite his blockbuster move, the 25-year-old was an unused substitute in Sweden’s 2-2 World Cup qualifier draw against Slovenia.
Speaking to ViaPlay after the game, Tomasson revealed why he decided to leave the impressive striker on the bench.
Tomasson said, "He had only done three training sessions with the team. He had no preseason with the team and of course, no playing time. The risk was probably a bit too great to use him today."
Asked whether the striker could feature in Sweden’s next qualifier against Kosovo on Monday, Tomasson added: “Hopefully, hopefully. He could come in as a game-changer.”
