Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has revealed that Bayern Munich made a move for him before signing Luis Diaz.

The Reds tied down the former PSV attacker until 2030 earlier this week as he signed a new deal with the Premier League champions who are so far unbeaten this season after 3 wins out of 3.0

The Netherlands international scored 18 goals and bagged 2 assists in 49 appearances last season and will have been on the shortlist for a number of elite sides. One of those sides was Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich however, as revealed by Gakpo himself.0

"From what I understand, they (Bayern) did come (to open talks about a transfer), but they ended up buying Luis Diaz. It's difficult because so much is happening.0

“Other clubs are approaching you, but you might want to stay with your own club. Everyone handles that in their own way, but it's definitely difficult. When the future is uncertain, it just becomes a very difficult story."0

The 26 year old has delivered consistent numbers since joining in January 2023, with at least 20 G/A in each of his first two full seasons. This summer could have different for Gakpo but Bayern opted for Diaz who scored 17 goals and bagged 5 assists in 50 appearances last season instead.0

Diaz already has 3 goals and 2 assists for Bayern under manager Vincent Kompany. The Colombian has lifted the German Super Cup and is helping his side in what is a perfect start to their Bundesliga campaign.0

Galpo is expected to be involved for the Netherlands when they face Poland in a World Cup qualifier on Thursday night in Rotterdam as they start looks towards the World Cup next year.0
