Arsenal begin talks with Bayer Leverkusen defender who has €60M clause
Arsenal have begun talks with Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie as they try to bring down his €60M release clause.
Over the past few weeks North London rivals have been linked with Hincapie who is said to be greatly admired by Spurs boss Thomas Frank. The 23-year-old has allegedly informed his club that he will be departing if a suitable offer arrives but now there has been a twist as The Gunners enter the race for the defender.0
This has been revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein who reports that manager Mikel Arteta is hoping to bring in the Ecuadorian international who has a very high ceiling.0
“EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal working to sign Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen - subject to player exits. 23yo defender told #Bayer04 of wish to leave + prioritising #AFC above others. Efforts ongoing to make fee more realistic than €60m clause.”0
The report also states that Hincapie’s preference is to join Arsenal and the Premier League side are ready to push for him, should departures materialise Frank does currently have Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso and although Hincapie would be a great addition it looks like he is going to miss his target once again.0
Hincapie has made 166 appearances for Leverkusen in addition to making 46 appearances for the Ecuador national team. He joins Eberechi Eze in targets Tottenham have lost to Arsenal and therefore Arteta who has spent big this summer to improve his side.0
