Wolverhampton Wanderers v Manchester City - Premier League
England international Rico Lewis is set to extend his stay at Manchester City by signing a new five-year contract with Pep Guardiola's side.
WHAT HAPPENED?
According to the Daily Mail, Lewis will soon officially sign a five-year contract with City. The England defender broke into Guardiola's squad during the 2022-23 campaign and made 44 appearances in all competitions last season, playing both in central midfield and at right-back.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
His new contract shows Guardiola's desire to keep the 20-year-old at the Etihad Stadium for the years to come. City have overhauled their squad during the summer transfer window, with the likes of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders and James Trafford all arriving. Long-time squad members Kevin De Bruyne and Kyle Walker have both departed, while James McAtee recently completed a transfer to Forest.
DID YOU KNOW?
Lewis has won two Premier League titles, the 2022-23 Champions League, an FA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup and the Community Shield as a senior player with City. He has also made five appearances for England, with his debut coming against North Macedonia in November 2023.
