Sebastien Haller is set to leave Borussia Dortmund

Ivorian striker Sebastien Haller is reportedly set to rejoin FC Utrecht, with Borussia Dortmund ready to terminate the forward's contract.

Sebastien Haller joined Dortmund from Ajax for a reported fee of €31 million in 2022. The French-Ivorian hitman was soon diagnosed with testicular cancer, causing him to lack fitness and miss most of the 2022-23 season.

After Haller underwent chemotherapy and recovered from his illness, the striker lacked fitness and was restricted to 19 games across all competitions in the 2023-24 season. As Dortmund started to become less willing to pay the Ivorian's hefty wages, Haller was loaned out to LaLiga side Leganes and FC Utrecht, the club Haller played for between 2015 and 2017 and scored 51 goals for.

According to BILD, Borussia Dortmund are now ready to permanently part ways with Haller, who recently considered staying at Dortmund. The striker, who earns €10 million a year, is one of the club's top earners and a financial burden for Dortmund.

The club are reportedly ready to pay Haller a severance payment worth €2 million, which will serve to compensate Haller for the wages he'll miss in the last year of his current contract.

Meanwhile, FC Utrecht are ready to welcome Haller back, according to BILD. Utrecht have been struggling to find a striker to add to their squad. David Min and Noah Ohio are currently the only options for Utrecht, who are looking to qualify for the UEFA Europa League.

In 41 games for Borussia Dortmund, Sebastien Haller scored 12 goals and provided four assists.
