Barcelona to hold Ter Stegen crisis talks over 'injury document row'
Barcelona are urging Marc-Andre ter Stegen to formally confirm his injury absence.
Ter Stegen underwent back surgery on July 29th and was supposed to sign a document to be sent to La Liga's Medical Commission seeking approval for the arrival of a new goalkeeper.
The issue lies in the recovery time, which according to the Catalan club would be four to five months (and therefore the time allowed to sign a new player), while for the German it would be no more than three months (not the time needed to acquire a replacement).00
As reported in today's edition of Mundo Deportivo, disciplinary action will be taken against the player, but at the same time, there is hope that he will reconsider and agree to the club's decision. As soon as the squad returns to Barcelona from their overseas tour, there will be a meeting, likely tomorrow, or even this afternoon.
Disappointment, it appears, for president Joan Laporta, who is trying to mediate the situation. His hope is that the player will reflect and, with a cool head, sign the document, obviously considering all the consequences. The goalkeeper's captain's armband could also be at risk.
