Man City loanee Simpson-Pusey ready to prove himself at Celtic: This is a big opportunity
Manchester City defender Jahmai Simpson-Pusey is ready to prove himself at Celtic on loan this season as he looks to develop with the Scottish side.
The 19-year-old, who made six senior appearances for City last term, has now become manager Brendan Rodgers' seventh summer signing as he aims to build a side worthy of defending the league title once more.0
Simpson-Pusey was captain of City’s under-21 side that went on to win the Premier League 2 title last season and was relied upon by manager Pep Guardiola who brought him into the first-team fold by 0last season when injuries hit the senior side.0
The Englishman spoke to Celtic TV after signing for the Scottish champions and explained why the move appealed so much to him as he seeks to develop with consistent first team football at a higher level.0
"It's such a big club and I'm happy to come here, play in front of the fans and play for the team," Simpson-Pusey said.0
"This is a big opportunity. I want to come here and show my talent and my levels.0
"It'll be good for me to come and hopefully help the team to win the league again and do well in Europe."0
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was also excited by the addition of the teenager who will bolster his defensive options as he aims to compete with Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Auston Trusty for a place at the heart of defence.0
“I am really pleased we have been able to bring Jahmai to Celtic,” said Rodgers, “and I believe he will be an important, quality addition to our squad.0
0“Jahmai is a quick, dominant centre half. He is a strong defender but can also move the ball forward very well as we progress through the pitch.0
“I know Jahmai is excited about this move and bringing him to the club creates even more competition which will only benefit us. I am sure he will settle in well with the squad as we get ready for the matches we have coming up at home and abroad.”0
Following victory over St Mirren, Celtic continue their title defence on Sunday, with their first away game at Aberdeen where Simpson-Pusey could feature under Rodgers who will be keen on helping him develop this season.0
