REVEALED: Ter Stegen surgery hands Barcelona major cash boost

Marc-Andre ter Stegen's surgery has worked in Barcelona's favour.

The Germany goalkeeper announced on Thursday that he will undergo back surgery.

Marca says the recovery period is expected to see Ter Stegen needing 4-6 months before he is seen back on the pitch.

According to LaLiga regulations, such a period is ruled as "long-term" and so means Barca can use 80 per cent of Ter Stegen's salary towards registering other players.

Last summer, Barca was able to sign Dani Olmo thanks to Andreas Christensen's "long-term" injury . The Dane's absence led to Barca being cleared to register Olmo last season.

The ruling is significant as Barca can use Ter Stegen's missing salary towards covering the wages of Marcus Rashford and Joan Garcia in their budget - and so meeting LaLiga's financial rules.
