Mathys Tel admits he spoke to former Bayern Munich team-mate Harry Kane before joining Tottenham and that the England captain is a "top guy".

WHAT HAPPENED?

Tel swapped Bayern for Tottenham on loan earlier this year before signing a six-year deal with the Europa League winners this summer. The 20-year-old previously revealed Kane gave him some words of advice before heading to Spurs, and now he has sung the praises of the 31-year-old again.

WHAT TEL SAID

The former Rennes man told Sky Sports Germany: "Yes, I spoke to him [Kane] beforehand. He also told me, if you need anything, send me a text, give me a call. He’s a top guy!"

THE BIGGER PICTURE

Tel made 20 appearances for Tottenham in the second half of last season and scored three goals in the process. If he wants to be part of Thomas Frank's starting XI for next term, the France Under-21 international may need to take a leaf out of Kane's book when it comes to goalscoring.

WHAT NEXT?

Tel will hope to impress new boss Frank during Spurs' pre-season campaign, which involves fixtures against Wycombe Wanderers, Luton Town, Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Bayern, before taking on Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup final.
