Paul Pogba agrees transfer to Champions League club as ex-Man Utd star makes 'significant financial sacrifices' to seal return to football
WHAT HAPPENED?
Pogba is set to join Ligue 1 side Monaco on a free transfer after agreeing a two-year deal with the French side, as reported by Le Parisien. The former Manchester United midfielder has "made significant financial sacrifices" to seal the deal as he prepares to return to football for the first time since his contract with Juventus was terminated in 2024.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The transfer means that Pogba will be able to play Champions League football next season. Monaco finished in third place in Ligue 1 in 2024-25, meaning they qualify for next season's tournament. Pogba has not played for almost two years - after being sidelined due to a doping ban - but has shown how he's been training hard in recent months in a bid to revive his football career.

Pogba has won the World Cup with France and played for two of the biggest clubs in the world in Manchester United and Juventus, but has never played in Ligue 1 during his senior career. He will now get that chance next season and could soon be joined by Barcelona star Ansu Fati. Monaco are also hoping to bring the forward to the club in the summer transfer window.
