Andy Robertson has reportedly been placed at the very top of Atletico Madrid's wish list and the left-back wants the move. Robertson is in danger of being forced out of the Liverpool line-up next season as Anfield bosses push to sign Milos Kerkez. And the opportunity to join a La Liga title-challenger has called the 31-year-old's future into question.
The Scottish international is a veteran of well over 300 Liverpool appearances, picking up two Premier League titles, a Champions League crown and three domestic cups during his time on Merseyside. He also appeared in 33 league games last season as Liverpool finished top of the pile in Arne Slot's debut year.
But Robertson's output tailed off dramatically. Having spent years piling up assists alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold on the opposite flank, the full-back set up just one league goal last term and failed to get on the scoresheet.
Liverpool's pursuit of the younger, quicker and currently more productive Kerkez suggests that Slot and co. are already looking to seucre Robertson's long-term replacement. And now, with an intriguing transfer opportunity in the offing, the former Hull City man may head for the exit.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico have made Robertson a 'top target' and an 'ideal candidate' to become their new left-back. Long-serving manager Diego Simeone has even put him ahead of AC Milan star Theo Hernandez on his wish list.

A subsequent report states that Robertson is keen on a move to Atletico and transfer talks have already begun. Liverpool are said to value him highly and club bosses may put up some resistance before letting him leave, even with Kerkez edging towards a £45million switch.
Robertson is entering the final 12 months of his deal, making this the final transfer window in which Liverpool can realistically bank a fee by selling him. The Reds have already lost Alexander-Arnold, who ran down his contract before joining Real Madrid on a free transfer.
Atletico and Simeone are earning a reputation for taking undervalued Premier League talent and revitalising their careers. Kieran Trippier enjoyed a resurgence with the Rojiblancos between 2019 and 2022, and Conor Gallagher has become a fan favourite since making the move last summer.
Ex-Manchester City star Julian Alvarez and former Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta were also part of the playing squad last season as Atletico finished third in La Liga, 12 points behind champions Barcelona and eight behind cross-city rivals Real Madrid.
