Liverpool FC could be about to lose Federico Chiesa less than a year after the Italian joined the Anfield outfit. Chiesa was the only addition to Arne Slot’s squad during last summer’s transfer window, joining for £10million from Juventus.
However, a combination of injuries and bad form meant his minutes were limited during the 2024/25 season. Chiesa featured just 14 times across all competitions for Liverpool, starting just one match in the Premier League.
He did, of course, have a Premier League winners' medal to show for his brief exploits in red, while also endearing himself to the Liverpool faithful, who were quick to come up with a chant for the forward. However, it doesn’t look like being enough for Chiesa, who is reportedly plotting his exit.
As per Fabrizio Romano, Chiesa has made it his ‘priority’ to return to Italy this summer, meaning his time at Liverpool will have been limited to just one season. It’s reported that the decision is based on his game time under Slot, as contact with clubs in Serie A has already started.

It comes ahead of next year’s World Cup in North America, with Chiesa having recently lost his place in the Italy squad because of his limited minutes under Slot. Speaking ahead of the previous international break in the spring, Italy manager Luciano Spalletti dubbed his move to the Premier League a “failure”.
He said: "Unfortunately, he has failed in England. He has only played 25 minutes,” a reference to Chiesa’s limited game time in the Premier League for Liverpool at the time. “He must be more consistent. He needs more defensive phase.”

Liverpool are expected to have a busy transfer window, with incomings and outgoings having been touted. Jeremie Frimpong has already put pen to paper on a deal with the Reds, with Bayer Leverkusen team-mate Florian Wirtz expected to follow shortly behind. Elsewhere, Luis Diaz has been linked with a move away from Liverpool, as Barcelona keep tabs on the Colombian attacker.
Speaking ahead of the summer transfer window, captain Virgil van Dijk said of the Premier League champions’ plans: “Whatever happens in terms of players going out, players coming in, I think it should be a big summer. I think they're planning to make it a big summer, so we all have to trust the board, as a Liverpool-connected fan, to do the right job. I think Liverpool should be able to challenge for titles in the upcoming years.”
