The summer transfer window is officially open - at least for 10 days before it temporarily closes again and then reopens, more permanently, on June 16 until September 1. Since being crowned Premier League champions, Liverpool have been hard at work behind the scenes looking at how they can get even better next season. Jeremie Frimpong has signed as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement and Milos Kerkez and Florian Wirtz also appear Anfield-bound. So what would Liverpool’s dream summer look like? Express Sport takes a look…
Incomings
Frimpong, Kerkez and Wirtz will already take Liverpool’s spending - especially added to the impending arrival of £29million goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili - to over £200m. They improve the pace and power from full-back areas while Wirtz can help replace the genius in possession now missing after Alexander-Arnold’s exit. But the Reds aren’t done there. That’s a new No.2, a right-back, a left-back and a versatile attacker but Arne Slot still needs more centre-back cover and a No.9.
The dream centre-forward would be either Alexander Isak or Julian Alvarez, and it is perhaps the Atletico Madrid man who would be the best tactical fit for Slot. He returned 29 goals and seven assists in 54 games in his first year in Spain after an £81.5m move (£64.4m with £17.1m in add-ons).
That means any fee to prise him from Madrid would surely be an absolute minimum of £100m and perhaps nearer to £115m or £120m with add-ons included. But with several high-profile sales set to raise significant cash, a deal for Alvarez remains doable despite also splashing out £109m or more on Wirtz. The 25-year-old is settled in Spain but was thought to be open to swapping Manchester City for Liverpool a year ago before joining Atletico.
Defensively, the dream window would see Ibrahima Konate commit to a new contract to avoid being sold or leaving on a free next summer. Joe Gomez staying would also be ideal given his ability to play in multiple positions while Jarell Quansah still has a high ceiling. Even if all three stay, Slot would benefit from having another centre-half to allow for greater rotation.

Ousmane Diomande could be the man at a potential price of around £50m. Still only 21 but with a wealth of experience in a league Liverpool are known to like and have recruited from before, the Ivorian is excellent on the ball off of both feet, offers good pace and is strong in the air. Liverpool are known to have watched him, too.
Outgoings
With such a heavy summer of spending ahead, Liverpool will need to offset their expenditure with some high-profile sales. Darwin Nunez and Caoimhin Kelleher appear near certainties to leave especially with a No.9 wanted and Mamardashvili arriving. Kostas Tsimikas, Ben Doak, Tyler Morton, Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott are others who could depart.
In Nunez and Kelleher, Liverpool will hope to raise a combined £90m, while Tsimikas might leave for around what the club paid for him in 2021. Elsewhere, Doak would cost £25m, Elliott around £40m, Morton £15m and Jota perhaps £30m or so given his injury record.
In total, all those players leaving that would see Liverpool raise £200m. That would then give the Reds a net spend of around £150m-£160m - but they have the money after winning the Premier League and spending sparingly in the last three windows.
