WHAT HAPPENED?
Inter Miami is heading into the Club World Cup in rough form, with no wins in their last four games and only one victory across their last eight outings. While hopes remain high for a strong showing in the summer tournament, there’s growing uncertainty as the club is not expected to bring in any reinforcements before kickoff.
Head coach Javier Mascherano signaled that new arrivals are unlikely due to time constraints and administrative hurdles.
"It’s a complicated situation," Mascherano said. "We’re approaching the end of May, and bringing in a player involves more than just the transfer itself - there’s a lot of paperwork and bureaucracy when it comes to entering the U.S."

THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mascherano made it clear that any new signing would need to be a long-term asset rather than a short-term fix just for the Club World Cup. Although he submitted a list of potential targets, none of those moves have come to fruition.
"I’ve already explained to the club what I think this team needs," he added.
His priority appears to be the attacking front. In comments made earlier this month, the coach emphasized the need for meaningful additions:
"We’re evaluating potential reinforcements," he said. "It’s not easy because of budget limitations. We’re not interested in signing players just to say we did - it has to be someone who genuinely improves us. The club is exploring options, especially in the attacking zone. Defensively, I think we’re covered."
One of the speculated targets is Uruguayan winger Brian Rodríguez of Club América, who previously played for LAFC until 2022. Negotiations are reportedly ongoing.

DID YOU KNOW?
Inter Miami entered the Club World Cup thanks to a special FIFA invitation after finishing the 2024 MLS regular season as the league’s top team. They’ll play in Group A and host the tournament’s opening match. The Herons are set to face Palmeiras (Brazil), Porto (Portugal), and Al Ahly (Egypt).
WHAT NEXT FOR MIAMI?
Inter Miami hosts CF Montréal Wednesday in MLS Matchday 16, aiming to break their winless streak against one of the league’s weakest teams. Montréal has managed just one win and suffered nine losses so far this season.
