Viktor Gyokeres could be on the way to Arsenal
Viktor Gyokeres looks set to be at the centre of the transfer saga of the summer.
The will he, won't he narrative that is set to follow the Swede, 26, around for the rest of the summer is set to dominate transfer talk as the Sporting CP star selects his next location.
Gyokeres has been on fire this season, and while he put on exploits on the continent in the Champions League he has also spearheaded his team to a league and cup double.
And in the process he's attracted interest from the likes of Barcelona, while, over on these shores, Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been tipped to test the waters around his signature.
Gyokeres was first linked with the Red Devils when Ruben Amorim made the jump to Manchester in November. "It's very sad that he's leaving, but of course we understand his decision," he said at the time.
"He has of course meant a lot [to me] considering that he gave me that chance and that he made me develop so much...He [Amorim] probably has some strikers there already, so we'll see.
"No, he hasn't [contacted me]. It's fun but nothing I attach any importance to because it's talk and nothing concrete."
When quizzed on what would make him switch clubs, he added: "That you get an important role and that you get to play. That's the most important thing. There are other things that also need to be in place, but I'll take it when it comes."
And he further addressed his future in January: "It's football, I'm still here. I don't know what's going to happen. Nobody can predict the future."
Gyokeres kept his head down for the second half of the season, keeping quiet on his future until after the Taca de Portugal final on Sunday: "Let us see.
"It's hard for me to say, because yeah it is football and you never know what's going to happen in the summer. So for me to say anything else than that is impossible."
Arsenal appear to be in pole postion for his signature, with cash-strapped United slipping out of the race according to various reports.
Mikel Arteta is keen to land a No.9 this summer, with his eyes on gold after finishing runner-up for the past three seasons.
