Florian Wirtz 'denied' Reds dream as Arne Slot breaks silence

Liverpool have wrapped up a sensational 2024/25 season in grand fashion. The Reds finally had their moment of glory, lifting the Premier League trophy after their final match against Crystal Palace.

Ismaila Sarr and Mohamed Salah traded goals at Anfield to cap off a fruitful campaign. It was indeed a day for the Liverpool faithful to savour, as they watched Virgil van Dijk proudly raise the trophy aloft.

Ex-gaffer Jurgen Klopp returned to Anfield to partake in the festivities. It was also a poignant moment for defender Trent Alexander-Arnold, who donned the red shirt for the last time ahead of his summer departure.

With the 2024/25 season now in the books, the lads will be jetting off for well-earned breaks. However, the club's top brass might already be eyeing the next season and potential new recruits.

Jeremie Frimpong seems poised to join the Liverpool ranks and could possibly be followed by Florian Wirtz. With that in mind, here's the latest transfer gossip from Anfield, reports the Mirror.

Florian Wirtz's dream number denied

Bayer Leverkusen's young star Wirtz might face disappointment if he lands at Anfield. He's been informed that his preferred number 10 jersey is already claimed by Alexis Mac Allister at Liverpool.

The Argentine midfielder doesn't seem likely to relinquish the shirt, leaving Wirtz to consider other options.

His preferred shirt at Leverkusen – number 27 – is up for grabs. That jersey hasn't seen action since the 2022/23 season, with Darwin Nunez being the last to sport it.

New Anfield gaffer Arne Slot has finally spilled the beans on Liverpool's strategy for the looming summer transfer hullabaloo.

Following his team's deadlock with Palace, the Dutch dynamo stated: "I don't know if it's going to be a lot but we know, the club, Richard [Hughes], the ownership, we are all aligned on what we are trying to achieve.

"It is already, very very positive that we kept Mo and Virgil and a few others that we are trying to sign look positive. We are very happy with the squad that we have.

"This club has always shown that if they can strengthen, that's what we do. Big summer or not, it is already big because we won the league."

Milos Kerkez teases possible move

Ongoing chatter suggests Liverpool might try to bag Bournemouth ace Milos Kerkez over the summer, and the lad’s dropped a sizeable tease after the Cherries wrapped their season.

Head over to Instagram where the full-back posted: "Thanks to the fans and everyone for support, thanks to the gaffer for trusting me to start all 38 games and special thanks to the one above for keeping me safe and healthy.

"Of course nothing would be possible without my family - I don't know what will happen in the next week but, Cherries family, thank you."
