Manchester United have reportedly initiated talks with Bryan Mbeumo over a summer transfer. The Cameroon international, 25, was in unstoppable form for Brentford this season, starting every single one of their 38 Premier League games, scoring 20 goals and laying on seven assists.

With Mbeumo entering the prime years of his career and heading into the summer window off the back of his best-ever individual campaign, many are expecting him to leave the Gtech Community Stadium. And United could exploit that by offering him the chance to play at Old Trafford for a club scrapping to get back into the Champions League.

According to talkSPORT, talks have been held between Mbeumo's camp and senior figures at United. Brentford reportedly value him at around £50million, and manager Thomas Frank recently hinted that he may be powerless to stop him leaving.

"I can definitely understand the interest in him," admitted the Dane. "There should be interest in him. He is at his best age, he has scored 20 goals. I would like to keep him, but we are a selling club so if someone comes in with the right price..."

Mbeumo signed for Brentford in 2020, when they were still in the second tier, and he has scored 70 goals in 242 matches since. The clinical left-footer can play through the middle or on the right, with United looking to bolster their forward-line ahead of next season.

Not one Red Devils player got into double figures in the Premier League this campaign. And United's top-scoring centre-forward, Rasmus Hojlund, only managed a measly four league goals.

Old Trafford chiefs have wasted no time in getting down to business ahead of the summer window opening on Sunday. A £62.5m deal for Wolves attacker Matheus Cunha is believed to be in place, and they are also in the thick of the tussle for Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

It is unclear whether United would push for the likes of Mbeumo even if they land those two, but they should have cash to burn if, as expected, they sell Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine has been told he can leave by Ruben Amorim, and Napoli are reportedly preparing to begin negotiations this week after failing to sign him in January.

United are currently on a post-season tour of Asia, where they will take on ASEAN All-Stars on Wednesday and then Hong Kong on Friday.
