Man Utd make Ruben Amorim sacking decision ahead of Europa League final vs Spurs

Manchester United have already decided they will not sack Ruben Amorim if they lose the Europa League final.

The Red Devils face Tottenham in Bilbao on Wednesday night with a chance for silverware and Champions League football next season on offer to salvage their dire campaign.

Amorim took over in November and has overseen United's lowest finish in 50 years, but his future appears to be safe for the time being, whatever happens next week.

The Portuguese has been honest about United's troubles and has not hidden from the fact that the task ahead to rebuild the club will be substantial.

United chiefs are ready to give Amorim another season to make his methods work. However, there is disappointment inside the boardroom over his open admission that the job may be too big for him.

The club already have prepared two lists of transfer targets, with one in mind if Amorim can guide United to land the £100m jackpot of Europa League triumph. While a second is less expansive if there is no European football next season.

United will still make sure that Amorim isn't considering walking away from the challenge before they make any moves in the summer window to fit his tactical setup and style of play.

The Red Devils suffered their 18th defeat of the Premier League season on Friday night in a 1-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Despite the focus seemingly being on Wednesday's final, Amorim opted to name a strong team, even though he risked key players picking up injuries.

His bold decision appears to have worked, and he explained his selection reasons to Sky Sports after the loss. "We have five days to prepare for the final. My focus is on this game and sometimes the best way to prepare for a final is to play, to compete," he said.

"We have experienced some problems in that area. I want to see my team compete, I need to understand my team to prepare the final in a better way and they need time to prove themselves to be ready for the final.

"We also need to compete in the Premier League."
