Jonathan Russell’s goal gives Conor Hourihane his first point as Barnsley boss

Jonathan Russell cancelled out Ricky-Jade Jones’ opener as Barnsley battled to a 1-1 draw with Peterborough.
Conor Hourihane secured his first point since being appointed permanent Barnsley head coach, while Peterborough made sure of safety with the draw at Oakwell.
After a cagey start, Peterborough’s Jed Steer was the first goalkeeper called into action when he tipped Adam Phillips’ low drive onto a post.
The visitors launched a devastating counter-attack to open the scoring in the 17th minute. Abraham Odoh waited patiently before sliding the ball to Jade Jones, who fired home from close range.
Barnsley pushed for an equaliser and were duly rewarded during first-half stoppage time when Russell took aim from the edge of the box and curled an inch-perfect strike into the top corner.
Russell almost doubled his tally after the break but his effort was just wide of a post.
Though the game fell into a lull in phases, both sides had half-chances to win it.
Davis Keillor-Dunn thought he had secured the three points at the end but the hosts’ top scorer could not direct his volley goalwards.
