WHAT HAPPENED?
According to L'Equipe, Manchester City have shown interest in signing young Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche, who is likely to leave the Ligue 1 side in the summer. However, Pep Guardiola's side are expected to face competition from French champions Paris Saint-Germain and will likely need Champions League football to make the move appealing for Akliouche.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Man City are expected to overhaul their central midfield options this summer, with club legend Kevin De Bruyne already confirmed to be leaving at the end of the season. However, the report claims PSG have made Akliouche an important target after missing out on Mohamed Salah, who ended months of uncertainty by signing a new contract with Liverpool this week.
DID YOU KNOW?
Akliouche is one of Ligue 1's leading assisters this season with eight so far, while he also scored twice during Monaco's Champions League campaign. He is expected to leave the club this summer, with manager Adi Hutter and chief executive Thiago Scuro both publicly admitting transfer offers are anticipated.
WHAT NEXT FOR MAN CITY AND AKLIOUCHE
City bolstered their Champions League qualification hopes by overcoming Crystal Palace 5-2 in Saturday's early kick-off in the Premier League. Akliouche, meanwhile, is looking to help Monaco secure second place in France's top flight, though they face competition from Marseille, Strasbourg and Lyon.
