Wycombe leave it late to secure vital win over Stevenage

Caleb Taylor scored a 90th-minute winner as Wycombe defeated Stevenage 1-0 at Adams Park to keep their hopes of automatic promotion alive.

The third-placed Chairboys are just a point behind second-placed Wrexham, who drew 0-0 at Wigan, with four matches to play.

Richard Kone had the best chance early on but the Ivorian inexplicably headed wide from close range.

Luke Leahy then saw his shot blocked by Luther James-Wildin, before Fred Onyedinma’s cross skimmed the top of the net.

Josh Scowen tried his luck but his bending effort was deflected wide just before the half ended and Dan Udoh also went close.

Xavier Simons fired over twice in the opening five minutes while Cameron Humphreys also went close.

For Stevenage, Jamie Reid tried to lob Will Norris from the halfway line, before the latter was on hand to brilliantly deny a Carl Piergianni header.

It looked like Wycombe were going to have a fifth goalless draw in the league this season, but Taylor popped up at the death to score a vital winner.
