Rochdale’s National League play-off push suffered a setback with a 1-0 defeat by Sutton at Borough Sports Ground.
To compound their misery, Dale contributed to their downfall after Kyron Gordon conceded an own goal in the 87th minute.
It came after Ashley Nadesan shot from the edge of the area, with the attempt deflecting off Gordon and into the net.
Rochdale remain in seventh place but they have two games in hand on their closest rivals beneath them.
