The Red Devils are hoping to bolster Ruben Amorim's squad this summer.

And United are set to target a new midfielder ahead of next season.

Reports in Germany claim that Nmecha fits the bill.

According to Bild, the Red Devils want to sign the 24-year-old Dortmund star.

Last season's Champions League finalists have endured an awful campaign.

They currently sit 11th in the Bundesliga, 10 points off the top four.

Should they fail to qualify for next season's Champions League, high-profile sales are likely.

Dortmund chiefs want to keep Nmecha, who has impressed since joining from Wolfsburg in 2023.

But Man Utd could test their resolve over the £40million-rated star.

Born in Germany, Nmecha moved to England with his family at the age of six.

He went on to sign for Manchester City, making three first team appearances under Pep Guardiola after coming through the youth ranks.

Having found himself on the periphery at the Etihad, Nmecha left for Wolfsburg in 2021, spending two seasons there before signing for Dortmund.

He has played 56 times for BVB, scoring five goals and helping them to last year's Champions League final.

Nmecha is one of several players that could leave Dortmund this summer.

Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and forward Karim Adeyemi have attracted interest.

While English winger Jamie Gittens could head to the Premier League.

Like Nmecha, Gittens was on City's books before quitting for Germany in 2020.
