Falkirk beat Dunfermline to extend Scottish Championship lead to six points

Falkirk extended their lead at the summit of the Scottish Championship to six points with a 1-0 victory over Dunfermline at Falkirk Stadium.

The game’s only goal arrived as early as the sixth minute when Barney Stewart threaded Ethan Ross’ deflected shot to Brad Spencer who was on target from the edge of the area.

Second-place Ayr lost ground on the leaders with a 2-1 defeat at Morton.

Curtis Main fired Ayr into an eighth-minute lead but the hosts took charge in the second half with goals from Cameron Blues and Jordan Davies.

Morton had to play the final six minutes with only 10 men after Dylan Corr was sent off for a tackle on Jake Hastie, but their defence held firm.

Airdrieonians remain rooted to the foot of the table despite a 2-1 victory over fellow strugglers Hamilton at Excelsior Stadium.

Sean McGinty appeared to have snatched a share of the spoils for the visitors with an 83rd-minute equaliser to cancel out Adam Frizzell’s opener but substitute Gavin Gallagher struck the winner moments later.
