Bottom side Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers play out goalless stalemate

Shrewsbury and Bristol Rovers played out a 0-0 League One draw at the Croud Meadow in a crucial match at the foot of the table.

Luca Hoole floated a cross into the middle of the danger area just past the 20-minute mark which found Funso Ojo, but his headed effort was palmed away for a corner.

The resultant move saw Mal Benning have a chance at the near post, but the visitors dealt with the danger.

Rovers had a chance to pull ahead just before the half-hour mark from a Jack Hunt curling shot, but Hoole cleared it off the line.

On-loan Aston Villa defender Josh Feeney played a through ball into David Wheeler – who went one-on-one with Jed Ward – just before half-time but the visiting goalkeeper managed to keep it level.

With just over 20 minutes remaining, Chris Martin tried his luck from a tight angle as Rovers pressed for an opener, but Jamal Blackman pushed the ball away.

Shrews forward Callum Stewart nearly made an instant impact as substitute when the ball dropped to him in the box with under 15 minutes left, but his effort clipped the post and out.
