Samson Tovide rescues a point for Colchester against AFC Wimbledon

Samson Tovide came off the bench to score a late equaliser and secure Colchester a 1-1 draw with promotion-chasing AFC Wimbledon
.
Tovide struck in the 89th minute, converting at the far post from Jack Payne’s pinpoint free-kick to cancel out Marcus Browne’s first-half opener for the Dons.

Prior to that, Colchester felt they should have had a penalty in the seventh minute when Lyle Taylor was booked for simulation after falling under goalkeeper Owen Goodman’s challenge in the area.

Goodman then foiled Colchester twice in the space of a minute, saving Jamie McDonnell’s header and then denying Fiacre Kelleher’s close-range strike.

Browne then gave Wimbledon a 39th-minute lead when he latched on to Jake Reeves’ pass before curling a fine low shot past Colchester goalkeeper Matt Macey.

Colchester pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half and they came close when Taylor’s strike whistled past the post, before Tovide netted.

Colchester’s Owura Edwards was sent off in stoppage-time after collecting a second yellow card.
