Wrexham star Elliot Lee has shared pictures of a terrifying car crash he was involved in that saw him taken to hospital.
The midfielder was involved in a two-car collision that saw the drivers of both cars taken to hospital. Lee, 30, suffered no major injuries as a result of the crash after Wrexham’s 1-0 win over Bolton.
Taking to Instagram, Lee posted a number of pictures of his wrecked Range Rover, alongside the caption: "Last Tuesday night I found out just how fragile life is and in the blink of an eye, through no fault of your own, it has the potential to change drastically. Thankfully I had someone looking over me, but I’m well aware of how different the outcome could’ve been.
"It has been overwhelming to see how much people care and the love and support I have around me with my family and friends. It has been a tough week, but I’m feeling very lucky and very grateful.
"Thank you to the emergency services for all their help and for all the kind messages I have received, it means a lot. And lastly a huge thank you to @kevmulholland @adermmm and my partner for rushing to my aid and spending all night in the hospital with me.
"Hoping to be back on the pitch asap (love heart emoji)."
Fellow and former pros paid their support to Lee in the comments section, including former England striker Alan Shearer, and ex-forward Danny Graham.
Fans also sent their best wishes, with one supporter saying: “Take your time to recover! Physically and mentally you need time! You've got your team behind you.”
A second echoed: “So glad you're as okay as you could be! Swift recovery x”. While a third added: “Wishing you a speedy recovery.”
Lee, the son of Charlton and Newcastle legend Rob Lee, didn’t feature in Saturday’s 2-0 League One win at Northampton Town after suffering bruising to his ribs.
Following the game, manager Phil Parkinson admitted he was unsure when Lee would return, he said: "Elliot's a key player for us, he's our top scorer and we need him back obviously but we've got to make sure he's right," Parkinson said.
Lee suffered no major injuries
"Obviously the trauma of that takes its toll on you a little bit. He's very shaken up as you can imagine and we're so pleased that he's OK.
"We want to give him a bit of time before he comes back. It's difficult to put a time on that – we'll again assess Elliot this week."
Lee’s incident was announced by Wrexham in a club statement, that read: “Wrexham AFC can confirm that last night, after the Vertu Trophy match against Bolton Wanderers, a first-team player (Elliot Lee) was involved in a road traffic incident when returning home.
The midfielder's car suffered extensive damage
"The incident involved one other car and resulted in the drivers of both cars being taken to hospital. Emergency services were quickly on the scene and the club would like to thank them for their prompt response and action.
"The player suffered no major injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle is being treated for their injuries. The club will be making no further comment at this stage."
Lee began his career at West Ham before making his name at Luton Town. The midfielder was signed by Wrexham in 2022.
