Sergio Ramos has completed a shock swap to Mexican side Monterrey - but, according to reports, his wife Pilar Rubio won't follow him to North America and will stay put in Spain

Sergio Ramos' wife has refused to move to Mexico with him.

Pilar Rubio has elected to remain in Spain following her husband's surprise move to Monterrey on Friday. Monterrey announced they had come to terms with Ramos on a one-year contract after he was without a club for six months.

Ramos, 38, last played a professional game back in May 2024 - in a 2-1 defeat for Sevilla against Barcelona.

According to Bild journalist Javi de Hoyos, Ramos' wife has decided to stay in Spain for "professional reasons".

"Pilar Rubio will not move to Mexico with Sergio Ramos. Last Friday, someone close to Pilar told me that she was tired of moving," said de Hoyos.

"She went to Paris with him, then Ramos went to Seville. Later, she decided to go to Madrid for professional reasons. She really likes living there."

Pilar has earned fame and fortune in her own right and her decision is reportedly to do with the fact that she will participate as a judge in the weekly Antena 3 contest, El Desafio, and the fashion reality show Maestros de la Costura Celebrity.

De Hoyos added: "When Ramos made this decision, she said: 'This time I will not give in, I have already given in twice. Now I am staying here, in Madrid. The family is staying here, Sergio is going alone'."

"She can no longer bear to have to move again."

Ramos will wear No.93 and a statement from Real read: "Ramos will play for C.F. Monterrey. His shirt number chosen to remember a legendary moment for our club: minute 93. A tribute to madridismo, a reminder of a moment that changed our history.

"Eternally grateful, @SergioRamos. We wish you lots of luck and success."

Pilar added on social media: "We are very proud of you, your effort and consistency to be better every day."
