Manchester City planned to continue their January transfer window spending spree.

Pep Guardiola has not been afraid to spend this month.

Manchester City's pursuit of Juventus defender Andrea Cambiaso is reportedly losing momentum, despite initial interest in the player. The reigning champions had a £54.5million offer rejected, with Juventus holding out for a higher fee of £75.5million.

However, the Italian club's coach, Thiago Motta, revealed that Cambiaso is still struggling with an ankle injury that forced him to miss their recent Serie A defeat to Napoli.

Motta stated: "Cambiaso won't be there. You know he's had this situation with his ankle, but he was trying to help the team. He has said that he prefers to take his time to get back to 100 per cent."

Juventus are already exploring alternative options, with Feyenoord's David Hancko their top target, and City are unlikely to get their Kyle Walker replacement.

Given the circumstances, a deal between City and Juventus before the transfer deadline seems unlikely, according to The Mirror.

Cambiaso, who joined Juventus from Genoa in 2022 for £8.5million, had caught Pep Guardiola's attention with his impressive performance in their 2-0 Champions League win over City in December.

Despite this, City have already made significant investments in the transfer market, bringing in Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Juma Bah, and may focus on other targets as they seek to address their recent slump.

Manchester City are set to embark on a £250m spending spree in the transfer window, aiming to reclaim their status as the dominant force in English football.

The club has already secured Erling Haaland with a whopping £240m deal spanning nine-and-a-half years. However, the Blues' expenditure is unlikely to stop there, with Atalanta slapping a £50million price tag on Brazilian midfielder Ederson.

Juventus have proposed a loan deal for Douglas Luiz, contingent on an obligatory purchase at season's end. Yet, City's long-standing interest in Ederson could sway their decision, especially as sources from Italy suggest Atalanta may be ready to negotiate following a dip in their Serie A title aspirations.
