Ex-Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant was once "freaked out" after receiving a foul-mouthed insult from a ghost.

Pennant, who turned 42 on Wednesday, January 15, visited a haunted pub with his former Page 3 model ex-girlfriend Jess Impiazzi and ghost hunter Adam Norton. The couple were left with more than a fright in The Ostrich in Slough, which is more than 900 years old and has been the scene of no less than 60 murders.

The spirit first apparently called Jess' name and asked her to leave, before ordering the notorious football bad boy to leave in French. The ghoul clearly had it in for the former Arsenal youngster, as he later called Pennant a "d*** head".

Adam, a psychic medium, said: "This freaked him out but then you clearly hear the spirit calling Jermaine a d*** head. Shortly after you could hear clear scratching coming from within the wardrobe. Jermaine got up and left the building refusing to come back."

Celebrity Big Brother star Jess added: "The Ostrich Inn was so scary. I've done a few ghost hunts with Adam and there has always been something to scare the living daylights out of me.

"But when Jermaine got really scared that made me worse. I felt so cold in some of the rooms and the spirit communication box was saying my name. That really freaked me out.

"Although it scares me half to death, I want to do more because I've got the bug. My highlight of the night, Jermaine being called a d*** head'."

Jess may well share the ghost's view. She later dumped Pennant - who spent just over two seasons at Anfield after a £6.7million transfer in 2006 - after she accused him of spending a night with a d********* during a wild stag in Ibiza.

They had been an item since November 2021 and had plans to start a family together. But his reported antics left her heartbroken in December 2023, leading to a split.

The Grade II listed Ostrich Inn, near Heathrow Airport, is said to date back to 1106. In the wake of Pennant and Jess' spooky trip, a spokesman for the pub said: "The foundations of The Ostrich were laid in 1106, when Henry I was on the throne. As with most historic buildings, The Ostrich has seen it's fair share of murders and they say that over 60 were committed here.

"Historical visitors to the Ostrich include MrTurpin who used the Inn as a hideout, escaping the Bow Street Runners by jumping out of a window and King John who is rumoured to have stopped at the Inn on the way to Runnymede to sign the Magna Carta."
