European champions Real Madrid are keen to secure the signing of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the upcoming transfer window.
- Real Madrid eager to sign Alexander-Arnold
- Full-back out of contract with Liverpool in summer
- Would not leave in January with Premier League title on cards
WHAT HAPPENED?
Spanish reports suggest Los Blancos are growing more and more confident that they can complete a deal for Alexander-Arnold in January. The England international would not move in the winter, but can sign a pre-agreement with the European champions to join at the start of next season as a free agent, when his contract at Liverpool expires.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Alexander-Arnold's loyalty to his boyhood club does not make this an easy deal to do for Real Madrid. The 26-year-old will be determined to win another Premier League title at Anfield, with the Reds in prime position to lift their first title since 2020. Any whispers of a move to Madrid being sealed would potentially disrupt the momentum of Arne Slot's side, with the Dutchman also refusing to give away any details of a contract renewal.
DID YOU KNOW?
Alexander-Arnold has made well over 300 appearances for Liverpool, winning almost every trophy on offer to him in that time. Alongside his Premier League winners medal from 2020, the defender has also lifted the Champions League, Club World Cup, FA Cup and League Cup in his successful spell on Merseyside.
WHAT NEXT FOR ALEXANDER-ARNOLD?
Everyone is waiting with bated breath for news on the future of Alexander-Arnold, alongside team-mates Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. With Slot at the wheel, Liverpool have proved to be an incredible force but losing their stars would significantly damage their attacking and defensive output all while strengthening their biggest European rivals in Madrid.
