A Dutch football side once replaced their traditional match day mascots with lingerie models in an effort to 'celebrate' Valentine's Day - only to then go on to lose the match.
At the time, players of RKC Waalwijk walked out of the tunnel holding the models hands, and could barely contain their excitement at participating in the publicity stunt with a string of beautiful women.
The models in question wore lingerie and white shirts for the struggling club, who were bottom of the Netherlands' second division at the time. And the ladies in question were also dressed in white RKC Waalwijk socks too in order to match the players they were paired up with.
They were side by side with their players when their opponents, FC Emmen, went past them during the pre-match handshakes.
One model even carried out the match day ball for the referees. However, whilst it seemingly improved the mood prior to the game, RKC Waalwijk went on to lose the game 1-0 to FC Emmen after Rick ten Voorde's 16th minute penalty.

Recently, the publicity stunt made headlines on social media again, with popular football fan account 'Casual Ultra Official' posting on X: "When you get tired of using kids as mascots."
And it prompted plenty of football fans on social media to chime in with their thoughts. "Haha wtf!? Is this for real? What team is it?" wrote one fan on X.
Another added: "This is football I love." A third, a Spanish fan, commented: "How beautiful! May the example spread!"
A fourth wrote: "Couldn’t get away with this now, cause of woke." A fifth commented: "Before football went woke." And a sixth commented: "Best league in the world for a reason."
Fast forward to 2024 and things are slightly better now for RKC Waalwijk who are in the Eredivisie. However, they are bottom of the Dutch top flight, having won just once this season.
